César- and Molière-winning actor Guillaume Gallienne—acclaimed on both stage and screen and a member of the l’Académie Française—arrives in Chicago this month not in character, but in his own voice. He brings with him a new and deeply personal work, Le Buveur de brume (Stock, 2025), an intimate blend of confession and autobiography. The book reflects the unique alchemy that has long defined Gallienne’s artistic voice.

On April 24, Gallienne will take the stage at the Alliance Française de Chicago—a fitting setting for a French artist whose career bridges the personal and the cultural. In conversation with Hugo Pinatel of the Atelier de la langue française, he will explore the themes of his latest book, delving into memory, identity, and the craft that shapes a life, all with his signature blend of humor and emotional precision.

The evening will conclude with a meet-and-greet, offering guests a chance to engage more personally and continuing Chicago’s vibrant dialogue with the Francophone world. This spirit is at the heart of the event, as emphasized by Mary Ellen Connellan, Executive Director of the Alliance Française de Chicago, who helped bring Gallienne to the city in collaboration with the Atelier de la langue française:

“The visit promises a wonderful blend of literature and community—an opportunity to welcome an artist whose work is marked by depth, passion, and a profound commitment to his craft.”

Whether you are already familiar with his work or discovering him for the first time, this promises to be an interesting evening.
